Filtering Gasoline from Tranfer Tank

I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas for me on transferring gasoline from a 30 gallon transfer tank to 5 gal jugs. I want to use my shaker tube hose to transfer gas to the 5 gal jugs so I can lug them down stairs to my boat. Problem is I want to filter the gas going into the jugs so I know its clean before going into expensive outboard motor. Any Ideas or thoughts?

I did a quick search on Amazon for "fuel transfer pump" and there are numerous powered and unpowered choices:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=fuel+transfer+pump&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Also found this filter kit in the above results:

Another:

There is no information about the outboard motor on your boat. Is it fuel injected? If so, chances are it has a high quality (10 micron or better) existing inline filter. Why do you think that the fuel in the aux tank is contaminated?

In recent years, almost every outboard motor I've seen has some type of inline fuel filtration system between the tank on the boat and the outboard motor. Have you ever serviced/replaced the on board fuel filter? Why not use the fuel filter that you already have? If you KNOW that the fuel in your aux tank is contaminated, you could change the existing filter. (that's what it is for)

If there is water/ethanol in the fuel, a particulate filter, most likely, won't help anyway.

I never sdaid I have contaminated fuel, just wanting to make sure it is clean before going into jugs then boat take. I also said that the motor has it's own filter and of course it should pick it up but why not prevent motor repair by doing some prevention? Whenever you transfer fuel from container to container, it's a good idea to filter it because you never know what has fallen or been pumped into the container before. Fuel injectors are expensive so an ounce of prevention will help in the long run. I will also but a couple of cans that will only be used for this method so I know they are clean from the get go.

YOu can get a hand pump and filter it.. Way easier than the shaker tube. Also better for other reasons... I've seen shaker tubes fail (the shaker part came apart in the tank)
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Might consider using one of those inexpensive filters that you can buy anywhere for garden equipment (mowers/chippers etc) they have barbs on both ends for fuel hose attachments.

I purchased an external 12 volt fuel dump from Napa which has a filter on it. I rigged it with alligator clips so I could use a motorcycle battery to power it. I have used it a lot to transfer fuel.

I've been using manual fuel pumps with replaceable fuel filters for many years on the farm. They are available with suction lines that fit in drums, pickup tanks and in up to 500 gal tanks. Just go to any farm supply store and ask.

Can you be a bit more specific? I am not familiar with these and I really not sure how to ask some kid at a store like that. We have tractor supply here will that do?

Yes, tractor supply should have what you need.Might not be cheap.
Agree, also Granger, Southern States, Agri Supply, etc. Just do a search for Agricultural Supplies. You can buy the fuel filter housing and filters separately. I've been using the same Fill-Rites with filters for over 42 years. (Yes, we did change filter cartridges) Don't know how long they were on the farm before I bought it.

I have a series of Coleman gas stoves and lanterns that I have been using for 50 years or so. They all have filters to use before pouring into the tanks. I have used these filters on more than one occasion to siphon gas from gas tanks then into a 5 gal or 1 gal containers. I should try the shaker type siphon because I have never quite mastered the vacuum technique without getting gas in my mouth.

How about a coffee filter zip tied to the output end of the hose? Leave room in the filter, don't stretch it tight across the hose end.

Not a bad idea however it may not catch stuff to 5 micron. Trying to protect injectors. Of course may not need to get that small since the engine does have it's own filter.

This coffee filter idea is interesting. Almost everyone has coffee filters.
