Cats & Kittens,
I have a new (to me) 07 Fleetwood Gearbox 335FS 5th wheel Toyhauler. I am in the process of my first dry camping experience. Another week to 10 days of camping & I will be home where I can tinker with this RV.
My issue stems with the charging system of my batteries. I have 2 fairly new 12V deep cycle batts & a charger/converter plus the distribution panel. Plus an onboard gen set.
Every couple days I would run the generator to charge up said batteries. One day the generator would not start (due to a dead battery), even though the batteries registered 12+ volts on my stand alone meter. I thought the batteries were wired in parallel and the gen set is charging both bats. It seems I was/am wrong on both accounts.
At the time of the dead battery (lets call it battery B), battery A was in fine shape voltage wise. Battery B was dead. Jumped battery B & started the generator. The gen set is charging battery A but not battery B. Battery A SEEMS to be running the rig when generator is not running & has nothing to do with starting the generator. Battery B seems to have nothing to do with running 12V items in the RV & is a generator starting battery only.
I have tested the Charger/converter & it seems to be working fine. It just wont charge battery B. (is it even connected to battery B?) At this time I cannot test to see what happens when I am plugged in to 120/240V.
Is battery B being charged by the generator only & not by the charger/converter? I do not see why this would be but I admit to being a newby to the RV world.
I cannot find a schematic for my trailer. Most, if all, my questions would be answered if I had said schematic.
Anybody have any insight to my issue? Where & what to test? I have limited tools until I get home, but I do have a volt meter. Right now I am charging battery B with a small generator that has a 12V charger (8 amps) & is very inconvenient to say the least.
Thanks for your time.
Stan
