Looking for some assistance, i'm at my wits end
I have a champion 40025 3000/3500 generator. Unit was running like a top over the weekend. Ran dry on fuel 2 times, refuel, one pull and fired right up until now.

Checked for spark, no spark. Changed plug and test plug against valve cover. lots of blue spark. Put back together, pull and break the starter cord. Wow, not my day.

pull the recoil and put a new cord in, re-attached.

Give it a 2 pulls, nothing. Pull the air filter, open choke. 3 more pulls and WoooWWf, big blue flame out the air box.

Thought maybe something stuck in the carb. Pull the carb apart, bowl, float, carb clean everything with carb cleaner. Now i must have it. Put it all back together, 3 pulls and wooowf, bigger blue flame out the airbox.

What am i missing or doing wrong,

Pulled the valve cover and sure enough the valve was stuck as well the spring retainer had come off. Wasn't able to free things up so ended up pulling the head. Blasted the valve with carb cleaner and it freed up on its own. Throw it back together and started on the first pull. Again thanks for the help. I didn't have a new gasket set but they all came off in one piece with no residue left behind so I tossed it back together.
Glad the valve isn't bent

Thanks for the followup. Behold a stuck intake valve, never even crossed my mind. Will have to pull it appart and see if I can free it up and what else is wrong with it. Dropped the oil last night and it had almost and extra litre, can only assume its fuel. Aside from the valve issues might have a washed out cylinder wall as well.

Sounds like it possibly what the other gentlemen said with to much choke. But, also could be spark timing. I am a small engine mechanic and although i am not familiar with this specific type of generator it sounds like to me if its popping back through the carburetor it could be timing. I have seen several times where the key shears off at the flywheel and causes the engine to become out of time. Something like this makes sense because it just happened after running fine. It could also be a valve issue. If it pulls over easier than usual and or binds up when you are pulling it over; try pulling off the valve cover off and pull engine over slowly and observe the push rods(. I am assuming its over head valve as most of them are). Each valve should go smoothly through its cycle. 2 different scenario's hope it helps!

Too much fuel in the carb throat. Lay off the choke. By now, you probably have a puddle of gas in the air filter housing. Lift out the filter and wipe everything dry.
