Has Anybody added a Vent Fan w/No 12v connection?

I would like to get a vent fan for the bedroom. It doesn't appear there is any 12v connection here at the vent. Has anybody had success installing these kind of fans on vents with no connection by running wire or connecting to a light or something?

Thanks

I put a Fantastic Fan where the kitchen vent was. I pulled out the microwave and found 12V wiring that goes to the range hood then fished wire over to it for the fan. This lets me run the fan without having to turn on any lights.

I fished some new wires from my tv cabinet, as the lights in the bedroom are on a switch, and I wanted to vent to run independent of the lights.

Most windshield wiper blades have ribs made of flat strips of stainless steel. A long one makes a passable 'snake' for fishing wires thru the ceiling for short runs. Bend the back inch over and clench it around the end of the wire with pliers.

Could go Solar?

If you can't find power there's plan B?

In the bedroom I have a light near the vent. I removed the frame of the vent and could see the wires so I put the powered van in and tapped into the light wire. Super easy.

Thank you fine gentlemen again. I will rip the fan housing apart to make sure there is no power there. If not, I will try to fish it through somehow taking care to plan my route to the power source.

Same here, I used a coat hanger to fish a wire through to a nearby ceiling light.

Have you actually pulled the trim from around the vent to VERIFY that there is no 12 volt wire there? It would be kind of rare to not have one near by.

I wired a fan upgrade for our front vent by pushing a coat hanger fish wire through the foam insulation between the ceiling and roof from a nearby light fixture to an A/C duct, and then from the duct to the vent opening. Once the fish wire was pushed through, it was used to pull the wires through of course. The closest light fixture to the vent is wall switch controlled, so I had to get the power from a fixture a bit further away that was direct wired with an internal switch.

There's also adhesive-backed flat wiring for surface mounting.
