When switching our fridge to propane, I understand that I spark it until the meter moves into the green. However, after that, is it supposed to stay in the green? Our meter moves back to the white slowly, and I'm confused about whether that means it's not staying lit correctly. Should the outside vent continually feel hot if it's running?We are new RVers and have been learning a lot about operating our fridge. Despite reading the book and searching for info online, I haven't figured out this propane operation.Thanks!

Easiest way for me to tell if the fridge is on is by listening. If your outside be the fridge vent you should be able to hear the pilot light. It makes a very soft sound like there is a little wind moving through the unit. To make sure you know what your listening to. Have someone turn it off while you are outside. Once you hear it you will know exactly what the sound is.

Yes, on a Meter type refer, the needle should stay in the green. You have a bypass type tstat, that lowers the flame when inside refer temp is reached, but the flame stays ON and the needle should stay in the green. That IS your indication that the refer is indeed on, on LP. Doug

If you'll post the Make/Model, we can help you find an owner's manual. My daughter has one that works like you and Doug describe. As I recall, there's a control we're supposed to hold till the meter stabilizes in the Green.Many of us have the fridges with logic board and electronic ignition. So, some replies may not help with the type you've got.

As Doug said- the meter must stay in the green, if it doesn't, that means it has gone out. Could just need cleaning, could be a loose connection where the thermocouple is screwed in to the adapter for the meter, which is screwed in to the safety valve.

Thanks! I have the owner's manual and read it. It tells how to start the fridge, but it didn't seem to tell how to be sure it was running.

Good to know! Next time we light it, we will experiment with that.

Thank you. That's exactly what we needed to know. We must have a problem since it isn't staying in the green.
