Anyone have a pic or description of the HD roof junction box that was said to work good for solar panel connecting ?
I was in HD, and nearly went crazy looking at all the boxes,.....that mite or mite not work. None really impressed me at first glance.

Thanks for any info.

I tried these and the sun will do a job on them -- especially watch for the cover to warp.

So what box of what material do you use?

I use these:

These are virtually flat so I install them under a panel -- no sun hits it.

A dab of caulk every couple of feet. I was using 3M 4200.

Mine looks very much like the one pictured near the bottom of this page:

http://handybobsolar.wordpress.com/april-2012-the-money-question/

I see no reason for strain relief on my box I'll just be using Dicor or another sealant as shown.

I will be painting the box white to attempt to delay the sun damage.

Maybe $5-$10 ??
And yes, the strain relief's were a separate purchase (all at Home Depot) and I had to drill the two holes in the side of the box to mount them.

Since that photo I've sealed the cover joints and screws with more 3M 4200.

But you're right about the sun. I've got some white fibreglass deck paint and will paint all the remaining grey bits with that. Hopefully that'll be enough UV protection.

Mine is the same, cept its round, and a "pot metal" material, and I had choice of white I think I'll grind the 2 mounting ears off the outside, and screw it down from the inside w/ Dycor under it..

I was looking at some boxes on the solar sites like this one;

The grey plastic junction box I used was 4x4x2" with no holes in it. The top was sealed with 4 screws and a rubber gasket. It had 4 tabs along the outside to screw it to the roof.

I cut a hole in the roof and in the bottom of the box to match and used lots of 3M 4200 and SS screws to attach it.

The wires enter the box through two strain relief fittings, compression type with rubber O-rings. I think they were for cable TV wiring. The solar panel wires fit perfectly.
