That 2200i spec for it's noise at full power (62 dB) - an increase over that for the 2000i - is NOT insignificant!
However, while the popular (because of price) Champ "2000 watt" genset is powered by an 80 cc engine the new Honda EU2200i is running a significantly larger 121 cc engine ... that suggests to me that under the same load the Honda will much more easily handle the load and is less likely to run up in speed to meet that load, meaning it wouldn't necessarily be any noisier, may perhaps be even quieter than the previous EU2000i under the same load.
Regarding physical shape another poster said he preferred the cube shape of the Champ - fair enough, but I prefer the suitcase shape of the Honda EU2000i (and now the EU2200i) as it allowed me to build an Quiet Box (mucho pics & videos) that was really effective in reducing noise, even with the genset running full tilt, to where it barely could be heard at all from 20' away. :B Incorrectly, many think that muting genset noise is as simple as sticking it in an insulated box of some sort but that's certainly not true of the Honda inverter series where the key is to separate cool incoming air from both hot exhaust gases and hot engine air, each of which also must be kept separate from the other. A well designed quite box does just that, most DIYs on YouTube, etc do not. ;)
Honda did keep it's weight about the same as the 2000i, however ... which is commendable.
I'd agree, having owned 2 Honda EU2000i gensets 50 lbs is about as much as I'd ever want to lift in & out of my truck bed and while the much lighter 1000 watt is appealing in that regard any 2K genset is so much versatile. My previous experience taught me that for the way we camp I don't really need a genset and would probably be better off investing in more battery reserve. That said though, losing power here at the house a few times this year I am once again thinking maybe one of these new EU2200i gensets would be just the ticket for powering key appliances in the house - the fridge & the furnace - for however long power may be out. Tempting. ;)
