hot water heater

Hello,
Have a 2013 bigfoot 21 foot travel trailer. When I turned my hot water heater on heater would ignite but then go out out after 5 minutes and not come back on. When I try to relight nothing happens. Water not hot. Propane to other appliances working fine. Of course in my manuals manufacture did not include the info on the hot water heater. cant go back to dealer because they are 2500 miles away. Advice please in trouble shooting. Thanks.

  • Problem solved. The bypass line closed not allowing hot water to leave tank and was getting only cold water. Opened line and Wa-laa, hot shower and igniter came on operating as designed

  • Go outside and open the water heater access panel. There you should find the manufacture and model number. Then go online and download the manual for your particular model. Also, contact Bigfoot and ask them who in your local area is approved for warranty work.
  • Are you plugged into shore power? If voltage is low the water heater control board won't work.

I'm having the same problem with my Suburban water heater.
  • Your cold water heater is guaranteed by it's manufacturer not your RV dealer and the CLOSEST RV repair facility would be able to repair it under warranty. Not many live 2500 miles from the nearest RV dealer. In a worst case situation you MIGHT have to pay for it then get reimbursed for the repair but if that is the case, call the manufacturer (Atwood or Suburban) and get prior authorization to avoid issues later. :)
    Good luck / Skip
