How do I adjust Dometic electric awning?

Here is our electric awing fully extended.

I would sometimes like to tilt the awning so the outer end is lower. -Drain water and better shade.

For some reason there is no adjustment possible as the lower arms are riveted together.

Thumb screw serves no purpose other than to rattle and make noise. I asked a Dometic rep at an FMCA event but he had no clue. Anything bad happen if I remove the rivet?
My previous Dometic awning was manual, had no rivet and was nice and adjustable.
  • Ohio_Engineer,

Your awning looks like mine. I can tilt the awning down on one end. My awning model number is Dometic 9100E on a 2017 Cedar Creek.

Does your awning have a slot through the length of the shiny metal part next to the black knob?

If so, try this: Stand on a step stool, loosen the black knob with your right hand, use your left hand to pull the awning arm towards your right hand. The gas spring strut will shorten, allowing the awing arm to shorten and change the angle to the "rain position".

The awning instructions I have did NOT cover this.

Remember to loosen the knob and level the awning, before retracting the awning.
  • A comment- that awning is over extended. The arm should not be straight, and the fabric should smoothly roll over the tube, with the valance hanging straight down. After extending the awning, you need to retract just a little:

  • Yes, you can tilt it down. You have to collapse the gas strut some to do so. Tightening the knob holds the strut from extending. Just don't forget to loosen the black knobs before retracting the awning.

Instructions should be included in owners manual, or downloaded online.

  • Finally figured it out. I needed to only open awning part way till I could push up on the bottom of the outer arm. The gas strut puts too much pressure on the arms to allow them to be compressed and slide together when fully extended.

Thanks to those that took time to reply.

On some of those awnings the rear arm is spring loaded and if it loads with water it is *****SUPPOSED TO******* lower a bit and let it run off.

    never been impressed with that

But a tie down strap does the job well.
  • That rivet needs to stay. The arm that slides should be slotted where the rivet is not a block. On ours it was hard to slide the first couple of times. After some use, it now slides freely. Like stated, loosen the knob and it should slide inward to lower/adjust as needed.
  • On mine I just loosed the knob....pulled that end of the awning down and tighyened the knob......it tilted and allowed water to run off.
