- leica69ExplorerThanks for the replies. I forgot to mention that I am of an age where I myself don't hear the whine at all. My somewhat younger girlfriend told me about it.
- SCVJeffExplorerThat is the normal whine of a switching power supply. Some are louder than others but it is not an indication of anything failing. ALL inverters whine, it just depends on how loud they are.
- leica69ExplorerThanks for the reply. According to one of the YouTube videos the whine is a normal inverter phenomenon.
- BFL13Explorer IIDo you get that noise with no fan too or just with the fan on? Fans are an easy do it yourself fix.
Go-Power has somebody make their inverters, which may have changed since 2006. (Xantrex used to have a 1750w MSW inverter that was re-branded by several others, eg.) You can ask Go-Power (Carmanah here in Victoria) tech support about it.
Inverters have come down a lot in price since 2006 especially if on sale, so it is not a killer to get a new approx 2000w MSW for under $200 - westendExplorerCould be the fan?
- thebat68ExplorerI work in computers and that high pitched whine is usually an indication of a failing power supply (same sort of electronics as your inverter). The thing is, I've seen some go like that for years, and some die right away. If you're sure it's coming from the inverter I would probably just be prepared to replace it sometime in the near future.
- 2oldmanExplorer III found a few google hits and a youtube video about it. Not necessarily your particular brand of inverter.
