Keystone Cougar slide-outs

Is it possible for a DIY to adjust the slides, starting to wear the carpet and scratch the flooring. I think I figured out how to do it, just wandering if anyone has done it. The dealer is 2 hrs. away and needs it a couple of days. Thanks, Dan
  • Hi! Well took longer than I figured. The bolts were rusted-up pretty bad, lots of acetone and ATF, lucky none of the bolts twisted off. Moved both racks up 3/8 in., not rubbing on carpet/floors, good to go again. Dan
  • Hi! I can not find any tags for mfg. under slide. It has a rack and pinion gear system that is exposed on the frame, and a round screw shaft that seems to be rubbing on the frame. My thought was to set the slide about mid-way, put a jack under the outside wall, to take some of the strain off the slide, loosen the bolts, and adjust the wall up. It looks like someone tried this before because some of the adjusting hardware is bent, that's the reason for the jacks. I figure to go slow and take lots of measurements as I go. I'll post this evening for update.

  • What type of slide is it?

I'm about to try the same thing on mine which is a rack and pinion type.
The end of the rack is mounted under the slide floor at the outer wall. There are several bolts that can be adjusted there: one for up/down, and two that look to control side-to-side tilt.

The up/down bolt looks pretty straight-forward and should resolve your problem.
But my slide is moving sideways when going out and not sealing properly as a result. I'm hoping that adjusting the two "tilt" bolts will fix that.
