I was looking to increase my solar and install a residential fridge and found some killer deals at the moment and thought II would pass them along, The Aims 1200 watt pure sine wave inverter with built in transfer switch is on sale in numerous places for 169.00 that is a deal just google it. I bought my 2 100 watt solar panels a few years ago with a mppt controller for about 500 bucks from solarblvd now tha same panels are 80 bucks...........100 watt panels they have some smokin deals on higher wattage panels too.

Rogue 20A MPPT is a better choice than MS 15L. Same price and more features. Though it wouldn't make sense upgrading from 15 to 20A now.

15A is 200W with 12V bank. For 400W (with this controller) you need to run 24V bank.
  • Mine are wired in series right now so I can add two more, you are right about the mppt controllers they have not gone down, the one I have is the morningstar 15L they are about 250.00 right now but only good for 400W.

Panel prices plummeted in the last 5 years, and I could tell you why, though probably nobody is in the mood to listen to this again. Suffice to say that normal progress of technology etc etc had little to do with this.

Now, if you paid $500 for a pair of 100W panels and MPPT controller, here is a bad news for you: today you will pay close to $500 for MPPT alone, if it's anything decent and capable of handling your expanded system. Controllers prices didn't drop - not those good ones.

Btw, if going MPPT, you could wire those old 2*100W in series and add any number of 24V panels, they cost ~$60 per 100W.

As to this particular 100W panel, I can't figure out whether it's mono or poly. PV-SC100J12 is poly according to manufacturer website, but Solar Blvd in the next line says PV-SC100J12-M. For those wanting to squeeze every possible amp-hour out of the system, poly is usually better.
  • And here I believed being hard of hearing was a total liability. Samlex 300 straight down alongside my bed I need to put my hand next to it to verify if it's running.
  • Yeah, I had a Samlex with a constant fan. It was unbelievably irritating.
I use a Xantrex Prowatt 1000 for my little dorm fridge and entertainment gear. It has a fan but has never come on (or, I don't hear it).

Thanks for passing along the pricing, just the same.

Thanks, pianotuna. You saved me from that one.
  • Hi,

The inverter will eat your lunch. Cooling fan runs constantly. Aims is not highly respected.

    Panel prices are amazingly low.
