King Pin Stabilizer??

I think I need to invest in a King Pin Stabilizer to minimize the wobble and bounce in my 5th wheel when it's set up.

Been looking at all kinds of them as well as their ratings. Would like some suggestions from this site.

Thanks
  • Bought one.....didn't find it affective enough to justify lugging it around.....returned it.

    Others seemed to like them.

I found that not extending the inner tubes more than needed helped remove a lot of the wobble.
Also when setting rear stabilizers (6X6 blocks used so they didn't extend much---wider stance) I would drop nose 1" below level then set rear stabilizers tight then run front back up to level made for a very stable setting.
  • Look into items like JT Strongarms, Bal X-Chocks, and RotoChoks. Also, look into installing a set of stab jack just in front of the tires.

  • We installed the Steadyfast system on our new fiver and wow what a difference. Very solid even with wash machine running. Only took 3 hours to install and their customer service is top notch, the owner of the company, on a Sunday, called and asked if my install went well and if I had any questions.

    Good luck.
  • Thanks for reply's.

I failed to tell you that I do have an X chock. It made a difference in the front to back movement.

As far as the Steadyfast system, I looked at them very closely and noticed on my Keystone Sprinter I can't put them on the front because the spare tire is mounted on a winch in the front middle underside. Will be in the way of the 2 supports that run from right to left etc. And the battery compartment hangs down on the drivers side between the landing gear and the tire. So I have to go a different direction.
  • I wouldn't want to lug it around with me. I made stabilizers for my landing gear and use lever chocks between the tires. I noticed a lot of bounce if I tighten the rear stabilizers too much. They need to contact the ground but not lift much weight off the tires. Less seems to be more.

After doing a spring flip I need to lug around a step box because of my overall height. Yeah, I know, I need to break loose of $300.00 for a new set of steps with 4 steps.
  • I had the king pin stabilizer and ditched it for the JT Strongarms. A lot depends on the height and weight of you 5th wheel. Tall, heavy 5th wheels are harder to make solid.
  • I also have the spare tire in the place where the cross braces would go, thus the stabilizer. I have the three legged one from b & l. I feel that it works great, i like the thought of having some extra support on that part of the camper. Yes they are somewhat heavy and somewhat combersome to care and get out of the truck but to me well worth the cost.

  • You either like them or you don't.

We've tried a couple of things like the JT strong arms and a cheap set of wheel chocks that tighten between the wheels. I imagine the X-Chocks work better. Tried different pressures on rear stabilizers and tricks with how far I extend different parts of the landing gear. We find the best results with a king pin stabilizer.

I spent some time looking at what others did and talking with people. Noticed the tongue jack on a TT acted as a extra point of ground contact the 5th wheel did not have, so I tried the tripod. We found it helped.

Personally, I chose one that would support my pin weight incase I had a landing gear failure or if I needed to retract/work on my landing gear. I also found having the tripod there kept the GBs from walking into the king pin and thumping their little heads. I keep a gallon zip lock bag over the greasy end and it does take up some storage space.
