level-up hydraulic fluid noise

I have gone through the discussion thread on the popping noise coming from the Lippert Level-Up leveling system on my 5th wheel. I ordered the oil needed for the Lippert fix and will try it as soon as it arrives. At first I thought it might be the check valve allowing some fluid to leak back into the resevoir so I started taking measurements of the front cylinders (trailer to ground) and found the distance of the cylinders changed on a daily basis - but, although it was changing, it was not always going down. One day it would be lower and the next it would go back to the original measurement. Over a period of days the level was changing up and down around the correct level point. Still, the popping continues. My question is - what is the physics behind this and why will a heavier (anti stiction) fluid correct this?
  • If your measurements are accurate, have you measured the other 4 rams to see that they are also changing? It almost sounds as if the electronics are hunting and lowering than raising the rig trying to find a level. Can you completely turn of the automatic portion or better yet, turn off the level up system then check? Maybe put the rig slightly off level and see if it will hold that in manual mode?

This is my second Mobile Suites and in both I opted not to have the automatic version, just 3 rocker switches and I level my rig that way. Haven't had a problem with either system. That is why I'm suggesting you isolate the automatic function and see what happens.

Let us know what you find out.
  • Hammer - Lippert calls it an "audible disturbance" and for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be a leak problem. If you are a light sleeper though, it is indeend a disturbance. I did call Lippert and the tech I talked to did not know what caused the noise - she did know how to fix it though. They even have a printed instruction on how to fix it so it must be common. Still - odd that they wouldn't know what causes it.
  • mine makes creeking noises too.I just assumed the thing was leaking inside the cylinders.
