This will insure that you do not have too much fluid or not enough fluid to make sure that your jacks are all up before you start to drive.

The smartest thing you could do is, look in the operations manual for YOUR particular slide/jacks/system for the specs on adding or, changing fluid. Most require all the jacks to be up and, the slides in but, there are a slight few that have alternate specs. So, to be sure, I'd check your manuals.

Jacks must be UP - cbeierlExplorerAs others have said, it varies. On my 2005 Winnebego Vectra 36RD with HWH jacks and slides the jacks should be up and 3 of the 4 slides need to be in--the other should be out. The difference is a factor of how the slide mechanism works--actuating cylinders need to be retracted to return the maximum amount of fluid to the reservoir. On my right rear slide the cylinder actually retracts to extend the slide.

Hey Chris,
I knew there was a reason I suggested to check the manual. I knew that I had read where one or more slides might have to be out, in order to check the fluid reservoir. Thanks for the explanation.

This is true, BUT, HWH systems have 3 to 4 EXTRA qts in the reservoir that are not used/needed. So, regardless of the slide rooms, make sure the Jacks ARE retracted and you can have 1 to 2 inches of fluid BELOW the top fill plug and still have more than enough fluid to operate the systems. HWH and other slide room cylinders use very little fluid when extending and retracting. Doug
