- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerOldman they are part of 10-watt LED lamps FOR SALE to rancheros. This is Mexico not Manhatten. They need good solid stuff at affordable prices. Eight bucks is damned near a day's labor for them. Ten watts to light up a kitchen or living room. I'd like to custom tailor each lamp at max spec ma balanced with chip temperature. I'm not getting rich doing this that's not the objective...
- For a fixed draw just get a resistor for a nickel per hundred.
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerWorks GREAT until you see the variance in chip specs. Dark day lamp gets turned on. Sun comes out. System voltage goes from perhaps 12.0 volts to 14.6 volts. Tried resistors they render pathetic light when batteries get low. M.a. & heat voltage tuning is the answer. Yotta see what a big battery charger does to LED lifespan. I wish resistors WOULD work.
- Does he need light when the sun is out? Just turn the LED off with a switch.
Or is this supposed to be some kind of 'smart' controller? - wa8yxmExplorer IIIOn, I think, the last episode of Amateur Logic TV (Amaturlogic.tv) they were featuring a small DC/DC down-converter 3 amps max and 97 Cents on E-Bay... I found 'em for less when I looked, I think 79ยข US.
- landyacht318ExplorerI've got this one:

I use it to limit voltage to a 180mm 1.3 amp computer fan, the Silverstone AP182. Its hub would get stinky hot at full speed and voltages over 12.8v, so I limit it to 11 volts and all is well.
It has had power attached for at least 18 months now, and has been passing current for at least 12 of those months. Right now the display is lit up, but the fan is switched off.
I bought a few other cheaper and smaller such as linked above, ones that do not have the voltage display and require wires be soldered, but I have not employed them anywhere as of yet.
