Why are 12v LP alarms $100 and a 120v "plug-in" type only $20 ????You need a 12v one for an RV unless your inverter is always on, but it can't be that much more difficult to make one that needs 12v--or is it?Haven't found any LP ones that are battery powered either, but they have those for CO. What's with that?

Unfortunately it's like anything else for an RV or boat....twice the price. That one is $70 ( Can) on amazon.ca The one that came in our used MH has been blinking green happily for over two years now. I decided to check it out with an open propane hose from a 20 lb BBQ bottle stuck right in front of it. Nothing. Kept blinking green.Unscrewed it and on the back (no date on the front of course) it says it was made in 2007 by CCI Controls. Somewhat past the five year mark! :(

Remember that those old CCI Control propane detectors also controlled a shutoff solenoid for the propane. If that CCI goes totally toes up it will shut off your solenoid leaving you w/o propane. If you replace the CCI detector chances are your going to have to remove the existing solenoid. Some people have had luck restoring CCI propane detection by using hair dryer on the unit.

The CCI does have the valve control feature, but no such valve to be controlled in this rig. Rig just has the red and black wires. The CCI had its two reds to the one red and its yellow to the black.

No way to know when the detector lost its ability since 2007, but it had no effect on supply of propane. (We got this rig in 2017)

Lesson for me is don't believe it just because the green light is on and you can make it alarm with the button. The BBQ bottle and hose putting real propane to it is the way to tell. You have to air the place out to get the green light to come on again.

The $20 one is meant to control a valve, it makes no alarm of its own.

I see quite a few on amazon ca that are less than the Atwood... of course, the Atwood says RV on it. And Atwood. ;)
