Matching AGM Batteries to PD9245

Hello. I have a new to me camper and get a clean start with solar and batteries. My previous camper had a PD9245 and (2)Sears Grp 31 PM1 AGM batteries. The float charge on the PD9245 is 13.1V and the batteries wanted a 13.6V float according to their specs. I didn't have any issues in my (2) years with this set-up and I leave it plugged in at home when not out camping.

My new to me camper had the same PD9245 charger, so I am curious if there is an AGM out there with a 13.1V float.

The 9280 is not PF corrected, so it needs a 20a circuit to plug into. (see specs)

It should not run on a Honda 2000w, but Fisherguy says his does. It would run on a Honda 3000 which has a 23.3a (AC) spec. There is a Yamaha 2400 that might just do it where a Honda 2000 should not, but I am not familiar with the Yamaha specs or performances.

I use my PowerMax 100 amper, which is PF corrected, that I twiddled the voltage pot to be 14.8v, and it runs on a 15a circuit no sweat.

I would not touch the PD 80 amper 14.4v job with a barge pole, when I can use my 100a PowerMax 14.8v (as set by me) charger instead with less draw on the generator.

Lifeline offers Two group31's, one has 105Ah and 600 CCA and the other 125AH and 650CCA and weighs 10 Lbs more.

wa8yxm - do you have a name on the grp 31 at 130 amp hours. The ones I have seen are 100 amp hours.

That explains somethign I wondered about.

NO,there is not an AGM with a 13.1 float. But they still work well with the PDI Wizard jobs.. The reason has to do with another feature of the Wizard (Auto-equalization for a few minutes every day)

Now..one other observation: The 9245 is limited to 45 amps out.. LIFELINE says the initial charge current should be AT LEAST 20% (They used to say 30) of the C/20 rating..Group 31s are 130 amp hours so that's 40 amps FOR ONE battry. You have two.. You need a 9280.

OF course that is only LIFELINE.. most companies want 30% as the MAXIMUM recharge rate. So again a 9280.

My opinion is to cycle the charger occasionally. Draw down until it goes into boost. I would also recommend that you double check the accuracy of your measurement meter

I use a PD 9280 with Lifelines. IIRC the float is 13.2 on the PD.

Really like the AGM. Don't have to deplete them much at all to get the PD into boost. Great charge acceptance.

I believe Lifeline is a virtual match to PD9200 charging specs.
