maxx air vs fantastic

can any one enlighten me on the noise level of the Maxx air vs the fantastic fans. I know fantastic is a good company but has not had good reviews since they got bought out. maxx air is a 10 speed, need to know noise levels. thanks
  • Lots of people like drunken fiddle players in mariachi bands.

How else to drown out the sound of people running their generators all day while charging their batteries at a peasley unchangeable 13.6v?

Such neighbors could cause one to dream of joining a mariachi band and consume hot tequila and warm beer while learning to play the fiddle.
  • Yeah Iztak Perlman drawing a bow across a Guanarius

And at the same exact sound intensity...

A half-drunk Mariachi dragging cat gut across his fiddle
  • Here is an unlikely to be employed option:

A 13 inch reversible radiator fan:

Use a PWm speed control to tame it down, but still have 15 amps of seal compromising suction when desired.

Might want to find a PWM motor speed controller with a higher KHZ though. 15khz might make an audible whine on some motors when slowed down.

The type of noise issued should be factored.

IMHO your ears alone should be used to differentiate same db different noises...
    ?

decibel (dB) - a measure of the intensity of a sound

pitch - The sensation of a frequency is commonly referred to as the pitch of a sound. A high pitch sound corresponds to a high frequency sound wave and a low pitch sound corresponds to a low frequency sound wave.

Not with Fans, but Vent Covers and A/C Shrouds, I've dealt with MaXXair and found them to be a great outfit. That said, they, too, are now "part of" a conglomerate. I don't know how that affects them, but they're part of "Aircel RV Group" which also has brands like Suburban and Coleman. If you want to go independent these days, I can't tell you where to look.
  • I have an old Fantastic Fan in place of my AC - it has worked wonderfully for many years now. I recently replaced the fan in my bathroom with a second Fantastic Fan. The new one came with a much flatter pancake type motor. While it works just as well as the old one, it makes a high-pitched whine that the old one doesn't make, and which is very irritating (to me). I've since listened to a few of these to see if it's just a bad unit and it doesn't seem to be. All of them with the flat motor seem to make this noise.

If MaxxAir still uses the old tall motor, I'd now get one of those over the Fantastic Fan.
  • I replaced the front 3 speed unk brand (possibly a Fantastic) which was noisey with a 10 speed Maxxair w/remote. Also replaced the vent in bedroom area with another Maxxair w/remote. Both work great and direct air in or out at your choice.
I would say at the #5 speed it is the equivlant to low speed on a regular 3 speed fan, don't really notice it. Speed 7 about the same as 2nd speed on a regular fan. At speeds #8-10 noise goes up, but you can still have a conversation.
When we use them, we keep one on air in and the other on air out, and when speed on both is up around #6-7, they do move a lot of air.
Well worth the cost, easy to install.
Amazon (where I bought ours) has the manual version for just over $200 bucks and the remote version for under $250, both with free shipping.
    Grumpy
  • the maxxaires that I used were the best IMHO. the fan was at the rear of the dome, pointing down, moving noise out and away and could operate in the rain, etc. no need for automatic gadgets that will eventually fail or let you down.

  • I can't compare to a MaxxAire but I had a Fantastic Fan put in after some power lines fell on my RV a couple years ago, base model FF works great and reasonably quiet. Guess 3 speeds is fine with me, off low or high are about all I need.
