Micro Air Easy Start installed today

I took it to my dealer, who charged me an hour to put it in. The service writers had never heard of the kit before. But I know the A/C guy is pretty sharp. I wanted to do it myself, but I'm too heavy for the roof. The roof is domed, so I couldn't just throw a piece of plywood up there to spread the impact. Brought it home and decided to do the 5 start burn in to help the kit learn the best start up parameters. The start up is way quieter. I couldn't hear the compressor kick in. I had to step out of the trailer and away far enough to hear the compressor. Before you could hear the compressor kick in about 10 seconds after the fan turns on. So I'm thinking that the install was a success. Maybe I'll find out next week. We're going to Lake Siskiyou, at the base of Mt. Shasta in Northern California for our annual week long family reunion. Supposed to top off in the mid 90s all week. They've been replacing the 30 amp pedestal plugs with 15 amp plugs, a few each year, in the power and water section, where all of the family stays. If they got to ours, I'm hoping the kit will allow me to use the A/C. I'll report back. Btw, no generators allowed.
  • Just got back yesterday. Our site still had the 30 amp plug. They are converting the old tent trailer sites to just power and electric sites, all 15 amp. They want big trailers to use the full hookup sardine sites. We have had a family reunion there every year for the last 25 years. Some motor homes, some travel trailers, some tent trailers, and some tents. So we all stay in this one circle where we can be close together. It's midway for the folks in Washington and Oregon and Central California. It's a great little place. A little pricey, but lots of fun stuff. This was our hottest year yet. A/Cs were going 24/7. I was going to back into a 15 amp site and test out the A/C, but we were late getting out.
  • Best thing is to monitor the voltage inside the RV when the air conditioner is running. Its specs have a minimum voltage of 103.5 at the air conditioner, so you've got to add a little padding to that, assuming you're measuring at one of the RV's outlets. I'd call 105 the absolute bottom, but more comfortable with 108. And you need to watch the voltage for maybe 30 minutes after the air conditioner starts because the power draw ramps up over time. Make sure the fridge and water heater are running on propane, and the battery isn't heavily discharged. My 15k runs on a 15 amp circuit just fine, through an extension cord. My outlet voltage is around 122, which is a plus factor.

Don't know what size AC you have but my 15K unit won't run on 15 amp. Maybe your mod will do it

If you want an EMS, have her read this thread from 7/22/17: Microwave and converter fried at campground

That's the story I related. Our daughter lives in Colorado Springs. We spent a week at the KOA last visit. No problems, except wasps in the pedestal. There are some other parks that look kind of shady. I wonder if it was one of them?
  • If we find a replaced plug, I won't try without a meter watching the voltage. I would like to get an EMS to watch it for me, but the wife only tolerates a few $300+ purchases. I did plant the seed and tell her about some of the horror stories you read here. She's the one that insisted on the Easy Start, when I explained it to her. I will get one before she stops working and we are off and about where and whenever we please!
  • What a great RV park! Replacing 30 amp plugins with 15 and you can't run a generator! In the 90s! What fun!

Oh! Why are you staying there?
