Microwave recall?

BIL just called. He had an issue with his microwave last night. It seems while him and daughters were asleep the microwave turned on by itself.

Called me to see if there is something I can do(I'm an electrician). I doubt it, but I will see.

He has a Sunset Reserve, travel trailer.
  • Since trailer builders dont make microwaves, who is the microwave manufacturer?
  • tell him measure the hole or old unit and go to wal mart get a new one.does not matter where gets one.
  • There was a recall for microwaves about 10-12 years ago for a particular brand, which mine was part of... I got the notice from Fleetwood about it.

The fix was to have the control pad/panel replaced.

I was able to just remove the MW and take it, instead of the whole trailer to get it replaced.

Mine never turned itself on, but I have always unplugged it when not actually "camping" anyway.

    Good luck!

  • There was an issue about microwaves starting by themselves.

It as a bad control panel as others have mentioned.

When they did ours they came to our house, where the trailer was stored.

Took them about 15 minutes. No charge.

You might be able to check with the maker of the micro, using the serial number, to see if the recall was ever completed.
  • Just got back from helping him out. Seems that this particular MW has always had issues. When there was a lot of appliances on, it acted up. Also found a low voltage condition on the trailer. Checked all AC/DC connections and found a few not quite right. Fixed them, and everything seems good now.

After the near fire last night old MW is only good as a canoe anchor.
  • This MW was a High Pointe, in a 2014 Sunset Reserve.

Also had a low voltage condition. Suspect this was a park issue. I think it might have been caused by a lot of electric space heaters being used. It seemed to have resolved itself later in the day as the weather warmed up.
