Email sent due to issues with keypad lock. As we all know with the exception of the full-timers how many weekends do you even use the lock! Ok so the one on your vehicle you may use say three times a day, and it still works right...and how much did you pay for your RV...ok as much or more than the car with the JUNK lock....so what gives don't put this JUNK on our RV's and if you do put something on it put one on that will last or replace it if it does not!!!! I'm so tired of the RV industry destroying itself!
So here is the e-mail I sent to LIPPERT:
I purchased a Dutchmen RV (Toyhauler) and took delivery in Jan 2013 it was equipped with the following 'remote" entry lock. (Mobile Outfitters Black Keyless Entry RV Lock System) It was a great system, but with use it seems the plastic on the keypad for the lock and unlock button has cracked to the point of not allowing access to the coach

Good morning! We thank you for providing your opinion. We can only grow from this. The reason why you were directed to our parts department so quickly is the touch pad is not defective. The touch pad performed its job for an entire year. Normal wear and tear on the buttons (WHAT 6 times last year!) have caused them to crack. Lippert stands behind its product. Had our product failed during the warranty period, due to a Lippert issue, we would have more than accommodated your needs. What assistance would you like going forward in regard to this keypad issue.

I have an RvLock Keyless door lock on my fiver. I bought it three years ago. It's well out of warranty. The other day the beeper that lets you know the door is locked or unlocked quite working. Its a huge pain to figure out if the door actually locked with out that little beep and a tiny light that assures you the rig is locked. I called them up. They said no problem we will send you a new circuit board immediately no cost to you. They did, I thought to myself what a great way to do business. Now see what it gets them. A great free commercial for RvLocks and maybe somebody on this list will buy one.

The lock is only as secure as the surrounding metal. You could have a titanium door lock and I could still get in with a simple large prybar/screwdriver.

Sounds like a crappy way to do business though, a part shouldn't crack and break after a year, with limited usage.

Sometimes I wonder about taking a FIC or TriMark door handle, putting all the measurements into a CAD program using calipers, then hitting a place that does metal sintering so they can make a door handle exactly like their offerings... but made out of Iconel 690. That way, it will take a lot more than just pot metal fatigue to break the handle.

This is one of my peeves with the RV industry. A RV should at least be either up to the grade of a car lock or a lock on a house front door, because a rig does both functions. It needs to have at least a key as secure as the average "laser-cut" keys on most car locks (well, "laser-cut" keys are not really modern... coin lockers had that type of mechanism called Bell locks since the 1970s.)
