More storage! give me your advice please.

Hi everyone,

I'm working on my very first DIY camper conversion, using a 2010 extended Ford E250.

Take a look at my plan and pictures, I'm adding some storage in the back of the camper I'm building, on each sides. I already know how I'm going to do it BUT! before cutting any boards I simply want your opinions/advice.

Mainly I'm wondering what is going to end up in there, the size is 22" wide x 8" deep x 14" high but the top is opened and ends up in the bigger storage area above.

For the access should I do like all my other storage area? (a rounded corner door)
I thought it should open towards the bottom so I can have access from the rear of the van or from the inside.
The storage would be partially above my feet when I'm sleeping and when sitting on the 72" long bench, we would be sitting on the other end of the bench so it really wouldn't be in the way, even if we're four at the table (which I doubt will ever happen)

  • I have nothing intelligent to offer other than to say I really respect and admire what you're doing! Good luck with it and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress! Thank you for sharing your experience.
  • Sorry i cant help but looks like you have it worked out, posts more photos as you progress with camper
  • Looks good. You might size your water tank closer to the size of your grey tank. 30 gal vs 18 gal. I can store some extra motor oil, bug spray, and such under the drivers seat. Also see what you can stash in the engine compartment, I have a little box for a funnel, some rags and extra fluids. Be sure to keep your fresh water hose separate from your sewer hose. I know you are only dumping grey water, but it can still be yuck. You could use a smaller hose for the drain. No solids. Look at hanging some pvc pipe under the van for that storage.

thanks guys if you click on the pictures you can go directly to my photobucket and look at all my other pictures from the start.

Sodajerk you want me to downsize my 30 gallon water tank?

I you look at my plan, I will add a 24"wide x 16"deep x 48"high metal box on my hitch, with the generator, pipes, extensions, adapters etc... I guess I could add some of the things you were mentioning (keeping the clean water hose seperate).

Thanks for that pvc pipe idea, tomorrow I will look under the van to see where and what lenght? If I can fit a 4"diam x 36" long pvc pipe with screw on cap I could store my two 10' long sewer hose.
  • Hi. I was looking at 30 gallons of fresh dumping into a smaller waste tank. Mine are close to the same size, 20 fresh and 23 combo black and grey (called a brown water tank). My camper was built in 1973 and was designed to dump the grey on the ground which I changed to go into the waste tank. My thinking is that when the waste gets full, the fresh would be empty. When you dump, you can get more fresh. Just responding to your request for more storage space. I see now from your photobucket pictures you have a good plan with a lot of thought.
    Carry on.
