Wow, a Nook and Kindle??? Talk about a blast from the past...Why not just store all your e-books on several Iomega Jaz or Zip drives? Then you can call them up on your Compaq Presario and view them at will without messing with those pesky lithium batteries.

I do it the easy way.I read all of my books aloud and record them on a Sony minidisc recorder. I edit my speech with the minidisc, since there is nothing better to edit audio recordings on without using a computer. Once I get my minidisc recordings edited exactly perfect, I dub them to 8-track tapes since minidiscs are re-recordable and are getting expensive. Since my '79 Itasca has a factory 8-track player in the dash, I can listen to my own audiobook performances as I drive all across the country. And, I only have to change a tape out every 80 or so minutes. The 8-track analog thickness adds a warmth to my voice that can be comforting on long drives. The tape hiss helps drown out the exhaust manifold leaks on that old 454.As a bonus, I can even hit the fast-forward button on the 8-track player and listen to my own voice at a speed just a hair faster than normal playback if I really want to get to the good parts of the book before the next gas stop.

Not an unusual size, yes a little difficult to find a selection of. My '91 Ford Ranger uses that size (specified on the door jam plate) and I have never tried to use any other size. Just bought a pair of Toyos to put on the front. I have used Uniroyals for years but they have discontinued that size. Its a passenger car tire, but I just use the truck for transportation and light hauling sometimes.

IMHO, nothing beats an e-ink display for reading. My Kindle paperwhite runs for about 4 or 5 days (I do leave wifi off). I don't recharge before it says low battery, and I still get the same battery life now as when new, several years ago. Likewise my 1st gen iPad still has, subjectively, nearly the same battery life as when new. Ironically, it is recommended that you run it until it shuts down every now and then, as it learns the battery condition that way.

No OEM on earth is going to force a device to demand an eleven hour recharge cycle. Yet by studying the nuts and bolts chemistry of lithium ion exchange reveals both reducing finsh voltage and limiting charge current, wildly increases cycle life. Battery University, the link above, has splendid data on these points. Graphs and charts. What is neglected is the fact that a softer amperage will permit a higher finish voltage thereby increasing capacity without undue adverse life cycle effects.

All this is moot. Utterly moot when it comes to easy to change batteries. But when the device itself is at risk and replacement is a near nightmare it skews the situation.

Armchair commentators who own no such device nor live more than 15 minutes from a post office are sure to pshaw such information as being irrelevant. Wotta Hoot.

Hit the nail on the head. Aecerbic forums populated by individuals convinced they must be taken more seiously than is possible, rule the internet. Amateur commentary from individuals who do nothing themselves but criticize everything everyone else does. It is entertaining once a person figures out such commentary is utterly hollow.
It's amazing the number of sites that insist a talking head emphatically voice every word in print at the bottom of the video.

Reaearch then actually do with one's own two hands then post comments or a reply is valid and fun to read. Recollections of seeing a post or something in print is not "where its at" unless the comment is annotated in context.

He's convinced that he knows how to control the charge better than the developers who program the device charging.

Let it be, having a new Internet kook is fun. Sometimes I really miss Archimedes Plutonium, the Internet could use a good replacement.

Exhaust manifold cracks? No sweat! There are loosened parts behind every cactus. Besides, overwhelming the braying, the rattling, squalling tires, screeching accordions and drums, and siren right behind you, is difficult...

As a bonus, I can even hit the fast-forward button on the 8-track player and listen to my own voice at a speed just a hair faster than normal playback if I really want to get to the good parts of the book before the next gas stop.

Remember, it is the custom down here to put the turnoff sign after the intersection...

Last time I looked there are tons of Kindles for sale and a boatload of books that available for the Kindle, and even more from the library for Kindle. Hardly seems like a "blast from the past". You may need to update your oldies list.
