Need help identifying this Vitrifrigo fridge component

I am trying to find out what the component in the red circle in the above photo is called and exactly what it does.

I was having an issue with my Vitrifrigo DM2600i (12V compressor) fridge freezing stuff in the fridge while the freezer was at the correct temperature (conversely, freezer was too warm when the fridge was at 36ºF). I called Vitrifrigo and spoke with a tech' support person who told me to remove the plastic cap, and rotate the adjustment screw 1/4 turn counter-clockwise. I did as he said, and it did help to get the two compartment temperatures into a better relative temperature situation. however, when I asked the tech' about what the adjustment screw did, he was vague.. I'm not sure if he was being evasive or simply didn't know the specifics.

Can anybody here provide me with detailed and accurate information about the name and function of this component & adjustment screw??

Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
-Mark
  • If I didn't know better I'd say it's a port for recharging the frig. (like on an A/C)...but I don't know better

    so...try this-
    Contact Vitrifigo Tel. 954 979 7737
  • My guess is that it is some kind of pressure regulator
Controlling fluid aka freon , help create the right balance

That's the number that got me to the tech' I've already spoken with... the one who wasn't able to explain what the adjustment screw does :(
Nope, it is not the fill port... that's the silver cap just behind and to the left of the component in question.

Well, as far as I can tell it is not a "regulator", but I do think that it somehow sets the volume of the liquid refrigerant present in the evaporator (this is very important in small volume cap'-tube refrigeration systems).

So I am still left wondering eaxctly what this adjuster does. How do I know when it is precisely adjusted... or not? Surely somebody here must know?

BTW, I do think that my fridge is working correctly at the moment... nothing is broken. I just want to know what the doohickey does.

  • Well if we you say, that's the cap tube
Then running the screw in or out will increase or decrease the pressure in the tube
And that helps regulate the system, isn't that the job of the expansion tube,
  • Some systems use an expansion tube and some use an expansion valve. I'd say it is an adjustable expansion valve.
