Norcold 6162 Fridge

My fridge just stopped working. No power to the eyebrow, no LP, no AC operation.

The main fuse in the panel is fine. Would any of the power supply fuses stop ALL operation/lightup of the unit if they failed?

Any thoughts? I've read a lot of posts that have these fridges stop working at some level, but not just a complete shutoff.

Thanks,

Dave
  • On backside of fridge is power module (lower left corner) On the right side is a vertical strip of connectors. At very bottom is where the 120VAC cord plugs in.
At top is where 12V DC leads plug in.....J3 (-) and J4 (+).

DO you have 12V DC power at those terminals?

If NO........DC power is not getting to fridge from DC Dist Panel. Bad fuse, bad fuse clip, bad/shorted wiring

IF YES......then you need to check the 3A glass fuse.
It is top fuse on circuit board under the power module cover.

GO to pg. 13 and follow testing procedures to find out why no DC.
    Several tests......all easy
  • Are you very far from Shipshewana, Indiana? There is a young Amish man there, Leon Hershberger, who owns National RV Refrigeration. He is very good on these refrigerators and he can fix any of them. He is very reasonable in price as well. Here is his website:

    National RV Refrigeration

Give him a call. Now he uses a cell phone, doesn't have an office girl. So you will probably have to leave a message but he has always called us back the same day. He can also help you try to troubleshoot.

  • I found the Repair manual. When it got to step 9: Check that the Humidity/Storage switch (figure 11.20) (2 door models only) is set to NORMAL or HIGH HUMIDITY.

Mine was set to "STORAGE". Seems the kids (I blame them) flipped the switch.

Do I feel dumb, or what?

'Storage' will definitely keep it from operating.

Thought from your 1st sentence fridge had been running and just stopped :S
  • As far as I could tell, it did "just stop working." Woke in the morning to find stuff in freezer was thawing....
