Norcold fridge gasket replacement

I did a search and was unable to find this topic. I need new door gaskets on my Norcold fridge. The manufacturer tells me that the only solution is to replace the doors. Has anyone had any luck replacing the gaskets, or do I have to bite the bullet and buy new doors? Thanks for any insight.

Thanks for letting us know Roger, many have had this same problem.

How did you make out with your gasket Rodger?

I had every intention of coming back and posting the outcome, but got sidetracked until now. I was able to order a replacement door through Affordable RV in Newcastle, CA (I believe they got it from Keystone Automotive in Corona). The tech at Affordable switched out the panel, hinges and latch while I waited and the door is a perfect fit. We took a short four day trip over to the coast and the fridge cooled perfectly, with no ice buildup on the fins. So far, so good. Total cost was $178.00.

Norcold also told me the same thing. They also told me that I needed to replace the whole refer because they did not sell a replacement burner tube any longer. I assume yours is a 1996 model from your signature? If it is not severely torn or damaged, what I did on mime when it would not pass the dollar bill test is to remove some material(about .060) off the back side of the black plastic latch that holds the refer door closed. The freezer door passed the dollar bill test and was fine.
  • Failed door seals meant new doors for our Norcold with no replacement seals available 5 or 6 years back. Ours were covered under Norcold's 3rd year warranty program ($50, a form, and inspection by a RV tech required at the end of their standard two year warranty.) I'm thinking the cost was $400 for each door or it could have been $400 for two. Not sure, since it was free to us. Recently on a newer replacement refrigerator (again under warranty - cracked interior case) the door seals have failed again with vertical splits in the right seal's flap. This time it's on us. So rather and give Norcold the money, I used 1 1/4" strip of black Gorilla Tape and covered the flap & seal on the right door. Actually it's working better than before. After 2+ months no interior sweating or water pooling at door bottom.

The parts manual I have do not show a separate part for the door gaskets so I doubt you can order just the gasket at least from NORCOLD. I would look at some sort of aftermarket or 3rd party solution.
