Onan 3.6 KYFA LP Generator won't stay running
Hi Everybody,
I have a 2006 Carriage with an Onan 3.6 LP generator installed. It has a remote starter and the starter on the unit. I had my rig at my mountain property for about 4 years and visited frequently. It always started and ran continuously for the weekend. I had it attached to a 100lb LP tank, with regulator, it ran on that for about 2 yrs.
Last summer we went up and it started as usual at about 9 PM. Ran fine as always, then around 4 AM, it just shut off. It turned over and restarted, but immediately shut down. Waited til daylight and checked oil, it was fine. I just brought it home and tried it here, thinking that maybe the altitude was an issue, the property is at 5000' and we live in the valley, at about 100'. Same deal, turns over, starts, but shuts down. If I hold the starter, it will continue to run.
Any suggestions? I was told it might be the low oil sensor switch. I ask a local repair guy and he somewhat blew that idea off and wanted to know what the code of blinking lights might be. (can't anyone list potential problems without using a computer or codes)
I can repair anything if I can get directions and/or photos. I have a hard time letting a tech spend 3 hours diagnosing an unknown problem, only to come back to what I mentioned in the beginning. I know that is a little unfair and they are out to make money, but has anybody had the same issues and been able to repair on their own.
I am open to any suggestions and/or directions. Thanks
