Onan 5500 Generator

Generator stops running every 30 mins or so when its hot outside. Based on some research about this issue, ordered a new fuel pump, fuel filter and air filter.
Any advice on what to look out for when doing this? I can't wait to have a RV place do it. Amazon has 2 day delivery.

what is model and spec# of your genset, also ser# may help.
the symptoms you have are most likely fuel related, as in a faulty fuel pump or the circuit in control board that powers fuel pump. We see a lot of this in our shop, and especially when ambient temps get higher. to accurately diagnose, you have to run unit until it shuts off, then determine if voltage to pump goes away (bad control board) or pump just quits pumping when it gets hot.

After it quits, the indicator light on the switch is still there. I'm going to try to switch out the fuel pump this weekend. Wish me luck, lol.

  • My 5.5 has been in the shop for 6 and a half months waiting for parts. Seven sets of end bell, rotor and stator an they are all sh**. Over $2300.00 and they can't get it to run.

Don't call ADVANCED GENERATOR SERVIcE in AzusaCA, . they can't call back. Seems they don't know how to dial a phone or click on respond if you send an Email. Eight sets of parts and still won't run. Contacted Customer Services and Paul Cooper said he would have parts sent right away. Garry Patton from Advanced Generator Service won't answer either email or phone messages. Onan won't help. Paul Cooper an L1 said he would have parts sent immediatly, what a laugh. Sure he did. Six an a half months and they can't fix my 5.5 onan. BS. They don't know how to fix it. They think you are stupid, maybe when the LA County Courts contact them, they will fix mine. I doubt it. They don't care and lie, lie ,lie.

I'm leaving for four or five months in late June. Well screw me they don't care. They will not respond at all. PM me and I will send several pages of lies from Advanced and Onan.
