I would try bending the pull-off linkage a little to make it more active. Just make sure the choke will still fully shut when cold.

That did it.
Choke fully closes.
Only weird thing was the choke plate flops around a lot on first start up
2nd start up it stayed in place with choke pull off
No sputtering or black soot coming out. - RLS7201Explorer III have a 7K Onan Marquis Gold in my 95 Bounder. The carb was not initially "throw away". I purchased a float and needle kit from Onan in 2004, because of a cracked plastic float. It has worked very well for the last 14 years. It's not a junk carb.
Richard - 185EZExplorerHa! yes it is Marquis Gold
As in gold carburetor
Seems like a simple design vs carbs on motorcycles and such
Not sure why they have to be so finicky. - bobsallyhExplorer II185EZ, if this is a Marquis Gold, it is one of Onan's famous "throwaway" carbs. Just plain junk!
- 185EZExplorerThanks.
I was wondering if I did something wrong during the cleaning.
It was fine before i messed with it lol
I've heard these are throw away carbs and you can't even get a rebuild kit - RLS7201Explorer III would try bending the pull-off linkage a little to make it more active. Just make sure the choke will still fully shut when cold.
