Onan primer switch wiring ??

I have an older 2800 Onan Generator now and it does not cause the fuel pump to run when the "stop" side of the control switch is held down when the engine is not running in order to prime the carb. I have had other units that had this feature and they appeared to have the same double throw momentary rocker switch that this older unit has. I am hoping someone here can explain what is required to get that "stop" side of the switch to activate the fuel pump. When the genny sits for awhile it requires more cranking time than one would like to get the carb primed. Once the carb is primed it starts immediately. I'm just trying to make it easier on the starting motor system. I appreciate any info or opinions. Thanks.

Thanks Drew, I'm kinda of the same mindset as you about the level of priority. I just thought if it was a mater of just installing a jumper wire between a couple of circuits it would be worth it, but if a circuit board change is required it wouldn't be sensible.

The wiring of the switch is the same on both sorts of units, so the difference must lie in different versions of the control board. I don't know offhand if they can be directly interchanged or not. I also don't know that I would care to spend the money for a new control board module to replace a perfectly functioning one.

My generator, similar to yours, doesn't have the prime function either. I've been thinking of installing a SPDT pushbutton on the generator in the fuel pump circuit, with the normally closed contact going to the usual generator control circuitry and the normally open contact to +12V power (and the common to the fuel pump). Pressing the button would operate the pump to prime the system, and releasing it would allow the generator to operate normally as before. This wouldn't make the inside remote switch able to prime; I'd have to go out and open the generator access panel and prime it there. This little project has been on the "to do someday" list for several years, so it obviously isn't a big priority for me.
