Headed out to the trailer and need to put out the slide.My two 6v batteries are in the basement staying warm!Can I take my Yamaha 2400is generator and operate the slide and leave the batteries at home??Not sure is the "open" battery circuit matters.Thanks in advance.CC

With batteries in, the slide motor positive wire is connected to the converter's positive wire on the pos battery post, so there is a path from converter to slide motor. No battery, you have to join those two pos wire ends to complete the path. Vice grip pliers is one way to hold them together. The neg path is ok since each is on the frame.

Or, if you can get close enough, use your jumper cables from the Pathfinder and connect to your battery leads.

Some slides require that extra boost from the battery to work smoothly. You can always substitute your truck battery by nosing up close to the trailer battery tray and a JUMPER SET to let your truck start battery help out some... Be careful with POLARITY of battery cables and especially those cables just hanging where the trailer battery was connected. I would put sandwich baggies over them to keep from shorting out to frame ground somewhere. If they short out just for a small spark you will be looking for some fuses to replace in your trailer.Roy Ken

Earlier this year the wire from our batteries to the converter failed. No battery power to anything in the trailer ie they were totally disconnected. Hooked up the Honda 2000 It ran everything in the trailer including running the slide back in.

Depends on the slide and the converter.. A small converter say a 30-45 amp may not have the "Oomph" to move the slides without battery assist.

The Lippert electic slide spec for ours calls for a 30a fuse. The converter has no trouble running the slide with no battery as long as there is a converter-battery path.

Jaycos have a little notice by the slide switch saying it needs the battery connected. That seems to be only due to the broken path with the battery out. (Jayco owners have confirmed that in previous threads about this) Vice grips as posted earlier will solve that.

What size of Fuse/Circuit Breaker protection is wired to the Slide Motor(s)? That'll give an idea the current requirement you're up against. Personally I would not expect a Converter/Charger to shoulder that load.

In place of batteries you may consider a 12v battery charger.

Hi,

If you fully charge the batteries and then disconnect them they can be left in place all winter. No need to transport them to a "warm place".
