Panels don't run things

Mine run about $650 a pop.

run meaning operate or run meaning cost?

I guess the response depends on your "old man mood" at the time. If you're in a nice helpful mood you can politely explain how they charge batteries and then things "run" off the batteries. If you are in a grumpy old man mood, just tell them to get off your site.

I tell them that the panels don't run things. They charge the batteries which in turn run the 12 volt items and the inverter.

Doesn't sound like you would be a very good advocate for solar power.

At times, then I try to explain a bit more in depth.

I usually try to explain how a solar system works using mine as a visual aid. Yes, I hate generators in campgrounds that much. The ones who are seriously interested are willing to stick their head into the front storage area to see the numbers on the controller. No, they don't get to see the remote meter inside.

I politely say--they charge the battery bank.

From the battery bank I can run everything in my RV for about 1 hour. Or if am boondocking I'll run out of water before I run out of electricity.
