Propane steak saver adapter not legal in Canada?

We have two brand new Mr. Heater Propane Grill Steak Saver Adapters (#F276171) like in the photo, that we listed for sale on CL. Got a message from a licensed gasfitter that said these are illegal in Canada. Didn't say why but said to check in the gas regulations. We got these in the US, probably at CW. Can't find a thing on the internet about this. Amazon.ca has them but are shipped from the US.

Anyone know anything about this? Doesn't make sense, especially when these are for a portable BBQ.

Very true, I bought one of those refillables. But once we got the hang of filling the others, it was just as easy.

I have had one of those for years it doesnt adapt to the newer hoses though only the old style.

Its a helpful piece if you have a propane fill station like we do at work.

Quoted from above:
The 2nd vid shows a fitting you can buy specifically refilling 1 lb tanks. Do people really do this??

You are kidding of course. Or where have you been ??
These bottles have been being refilled ever since the middle 70s. I have filled over a thousand myself, and I still do it.
And for another poster, if you think you cannot overfill those 1# bottles, change your thinking. I have overfilled hundreds of them, had to stop alongside the road bleed them off when headed to the mountains. The overfilled bottles just hate altitude,......and thy ain't exactly fond of heating up during the day either !
But is this off topic or what ?? Who got this started 🙂 .

I am curious as to exactly why you got this message from a licensed gasfitter? was he snooping around your gas grill?

He responded via Craigslist to the listing we had.

So the gasfitter must have thought this fitting is meant for transferring propane from one tank to another? I thought these are just for when your 20/30 lb main tanks run empty and you can adapt a 1 lb. disposable tank so you can save your steak(s). I would assume there'd be a check valve in it that would prevent a big tank from filling a 1 pounder?

But, I just found some youtube vids showing how to refill a 1 lb. tank using a Mr. Heater adapter like this one: Refilling a 1 lb. tank. and this one. The vids show using a different Mr. Heater fitting though, a # F276172. The 2nd vid shows a fitting you can buy specifically refilling 1 lb tanks. Do people really do this??

It helps to put the 20# tank in the sun when the 1# is in the freezer..

QUESTION,
Do those nonrefillable adaptors work now that the 20 lb. tanks have auto shut off when filling?
How do you get liquid LP out of a 20 pounder?

Dusty
They work just fine. Turn the big cylinder up side down before opening the valve to refill.

That other adapter looks handy, unless you're like me and keep extra 20 pounders around.

put the 1# tank in a freezer until well cold. turn the 20#r upside down. Wrap the 1# in a towel to keep it cold, screw it onto your adapter and open the valve. If you're luckey you will get in 12/13 oz of propane. I have never gotten much more in so overfilling has never been a problem. Do this outside in the middle of the driveway or something. Away from any possible source of ignition. Never had a problem and never overfilled a small tank.I think the law says something about illegal to refill and TRANSPORT.
