Question about Dash AC

Our dash AC worked fine for a couple years. They it quit blowing cold.
Dealer #1 said they found a bad O ring and replaced it along with new refrigerant. It now blew cold, but after a short time, started to blow ambient temp air again. Went to Dealer #2 , they replaced the dryer.. once again it worked fine, this time for nearly a year, then started blowing ambient temp air. Back to dealer #2 and they checked it out and put on another dryer. It's covered under the service contract so no big deal to me, but was wondering why the dryers are going bad.
  • Charge system with Freon and Have someone put a leak detector in the system. Take it back after few weeks and see where or if there is a leak.
If no leak then have compressor readings taken.
  • So, you have a slow leak somewhere.
Hose, compressor, are the most common ones.
There are 2 o'rings on the compressor, suction and high pressure line.
    Seals also on the compressor.
Very small leak on either hose, due to rubbing.

Unless you want to buy an electronic leak detector -----use it as much as you can
  • Most will change the dryer if the system has been open or all leaked out. The dryer takes moisture and contaminants out of the refrigerant when the system has been worked on. I think you have a small leak that hasn't been found. Keep going back while you are under warranty. A bad dryer will stop your air conditioning system fast. It will give you bouncing pressures on the gauges.
