I'd bet you have LED lighting and that's what causing RFI interference with the radio. The solution is to replace them with LED bulbs that don't, just as I did. Pics are in my gallery. :)

The radio is very near an under cabinet light and where the radio appears to be getting it's power source. I can turn that under counter light on and it does not impact the radio volume. But, if I turn on the main light switch on the other side of the trailer the volume becomes reduced. I have noticed that if I just turn on the 1 under counter light the converter does not turn on. When I turn on the main light switch the converter comes on... so I'm thinking the converter may be playing a role in the interference. The trailer is a 2007 year model. The light bulbs are have 921 printed on them. If the under counter light does not affect radio volume don't know other light bulbs would.

More info is needed ... are you the original owner of this 2007 trailer, if not perhaps some of the bulbs have been changed to LEDs. If they're all 921 incandescent bulbs then perhaps the converter is the cause, in which case turning it off and running on battery power might solve the issue. If that works then it's possible the converter is failing or there's a loose ground ... but that could be just about anywhere and very difficult to locate, though checking the connections at the converter would be the obvious place to start.

I would measure 12VDC voltage drop at the RADIO when you turn additional lights. You may have picked a bad place to get your 12VDC to run your AM/FM radio. Standard Automotive 12VDC lights can draw some serious DC CURRENT..

I also agree with others that the LED lights that have built-in BUCK BOOST regulator chips can cause RFI signals that may interfere with your HDTV, VHF/UHF Freq Radio reception, NOAH WX ALERT radio signals, etc...

I'm not the original owner. I traded trailers last fall. Upon checking it out there was a problem when the generator was running so ultimately they installed a new converter.

Who is "they"? :h If you mean the previous owners rather than a qualified tech that would lead one to suspect there may be an issue with the converter installation. And you still haven't answered as to whether we're talking LED bulbs, or not. What is the make / model of converter? If you run on battery power alone does that solve the problem? :@

Are you seeing this problem with AM or FM reception or both? I am working a somewhat related problem with AM reception issues on our TT. The converter is definitely a source of RFI that appears to affect the radio's automatic gain control circuit causing it to reduce RF gain and hence volume. There are other RFI sources such as the fridge when operating on gas for example. If you see this problem on FM then it is probably not an RFI issue.
