Reefer killed by the heat?

Running it for a morning will not tell you much as these things need at least 24 hours to cool down.

I tried running the thing during moderate temps in the mornings, both propane and electric. NO GO

It will recover you are over spec for the thing.. Mine starts to be "less cool" at around 100.. Cools right off at 80

Panels are NEVER part of a new refer. They cost extra. Most OEM's cut there own door panels from wood paneling to match the interior décor. Doug

Old Norcold unit was N611RT, new unit is NA7LXR.


First I called Giant RV, since its close and its where we bought our rig. I then called Camping World. Giant RV
wouldn't have an appointment available until Aug 31, and their quote was $1000 more than CW for a replacement fridge.

We went early to try to avoid traffic, but with our appointment at 1:30, they shifted it to 2:00 (but without notice). Ok,
30 minutes isn't a big deal. We were called to put the rig in the service bay within 20 min of our arrival (11:00).
Job was specified as 2 hours.

It APPEARED that work commenced immediately, but the job wasn't done until after 4:00. At that time we discovered that the
front panels were moved from the old unit to the new unit. DW was livid, as she expected everything all new.

I was informed that this is standard, that new panels don't come with the new unit and are ordered separately. I think
the service writer does not know this, nor informs customers about it. I was not going to pay for panels. They did fit
the old panels using a supplied trim piece which made up the difference in size.

Initially, the service writer said I would get a $100 rebate from Norcold. Actually, its not applied at the time of
purchase. One has to get on the website norcold.com/2018rebate, and you will need the model and s/n of both the old
AND the new units. Since both units are Norcold, the rebate is only $50. If the old unit is not Norcold, the rebate
is $100.

Thanx to all of y9u for your comments and information and suggestions. At this point I will contact at least two businesses regarding service and/or replacement.

We just concluded a short trip using the reefer as an ice box with two trays of ice in the reefer and freezer. Worked fine as an interem solution.

What model Norcold please.

In 100 to 104 degrees in current Texas heat, I can get customers refers (both Norcold and Dometic) to the spec of 32 to 35 degrees. Of course this is with the AC running keeping the interior temp between 75 and 85 degrees. You attempt to run as refer without AC in 90 plus heat and even over 100 degrees and you will have a problem. SAME thing with a residential. Try to keep a residential below 38 to 40 degrees in a garage that gets up to 110 degrees or higher. They BOTH have to remove heat for the cooling systems to work and if they only have HOT air, they will not work correctly. Doug
