Refrigerator Cooling

I have Dometic New dimensions 1292 fridge. Cools well on AC. Lately very poorly on propane. Checked burner area. Cleaned area. Had some crud. Now clean and flame strong and blue. I understand both electric and gas heat the same boiler areas. Any idea why unsatisfactory cooling while on propane and how to correct? On propane freezer cools OK, just fridge a problem.
  • Found problem. Had cleaned burner area. No help. Jiggled baffle in exhaust stack got a lot of crud from chimney. Vacuumed restarted and now cooling on gas. Flue must have been partially blocked. Now just have to replace the drain hose that disintegrated. Tricky to get to due to sheet metal on output vent (side vent in slideout).
  • I just dealt with this exact thing. Great on electric no cool on propane. I ended up taking the line off the gas control valve going to the burner and shooting compressed air through it and now it is cooling great!

  • Since you've cleaned out the burner area and the flame is now strong and blue, I think you may have solved the problem. As for the freezer being ok, the frig cools the freezer first, then the fridge. So, you may just have to give it some more time.

Another factor may be the temperature outside. If it is over 80 or 90 degrees, your frig is going to have some difficulty keeping the frig at the correct temperature. A solution would be to install a fan to the outside lower vent to blow air into the back compartment and help the natural chimney effect that would normally cause the warm air to escape and cooler air enter.
