RM2401 Electric Operation

Newbie back again.

Does a Dometic RM2401 have to have both a 120 and 12v connection to operate? I just got this TC and haven't hooked up a propane bottle or 12v battery yet (didn't come with either). When hooked to shore power the fridge doesn't cool down, and I followed the manual on starting it. I have 110v running into the fridge.

If it must have a 12v source connected as well then I'll try that before tearing into the back and testing the internal board. I'm not sure the propane lines are all sealed, so I didn't want to try gas operation until I check all my lines and such.

    Well delete this thread. I was almost positive my camper was near level, and it wasn't. Triple checked level, switched to electric operation, and now it's freezing. Sorry all...

    Finally got around to messing with this. My heating element warms up, everything seems to behave like it should, but the fridge never really cools down.

    Thanks all, I understood the gas operation side from the manual it had, but the elec side was lacking.

    Correct, it is all manual controls. dial to select electric or gas, and as stated I have no gas hooked up just yet. I'll open up the back and check the thermostat and switch.

    Most 2401 models have MANUAL controls. The 120 electric engages when you turn the knob to electric. To light you turn to LP and then push the ignitor button it clicks, you continue to push and click until it lights. Doug

    The only thing that model needs power for is the reignitor- once the flame is lit, no power is needed. No 12 volt power is needed for 120 volt operation- if it isn't working, and the outlet has power, it is either a bad element, switch or thermostat.

    I didn't look up the manual for that fridge, but my 7401 three-way needs the 12v controls wire pair connected to operate.

    It has two sets of 12v wires. One set is for the 12v fridge operation, which I did not connect. The other 12v pair is for the fridge controls. That must be connected before anything can happen.

    The pairs are marked on top which is which but you can only see that with it out from the wall. If installed you would have to do trial and error I suppose.
