Roof damage from tree

Ugh. Feel sick to stomach. I went to back in a spot that had clearance two years ago. Now it doesn’t. Tore a handful of holes in the epdm roof. I’m gonna throw some patches on in the morning and call insurance Monday. Anyone had this? Does rv shop replace part of roof, seal it somehow? I had a blowout repair done at a general rv before. Won’t do that again. Any other good places near canton Ohio? I swear I was thinking of selling it this week. :(.

Had a tree limb fall on our TT in our yard. 7 punctures in the membrane with a couple of tears. Found it before it rained and did a temporary patch with packing and duct tape. Filed a claim online, adjuster looked at it in a couple of days and authorized a new roof. Only a two week delay in getting into the shop who had it three days to repair. Picked it up Saturday, looks great all for the cost of the deductible. Hated to make the claim on the insurance policy but then that's what we pay them for.

The Work n Play line uses a TPO roof membrane. The trusses are aluminum.

why couldn`t you put 2 coats of liquid roof witch is a 2 part rubber epoxy sticks to everything instead of sheet rubber?

I never thought about an aluminum roof -- would it be possible to lay a big sheet of aluminum right over the existing roof, as a form of roof armor?? With cut to fit holes for the air conditioner and the vents, sealed with Eternabond.

Since I often camp among low hanging trees with sharp branches, this sounds like it could work.

There must be a reason that no one has tried this solution . . . .

Rubber is cheaper, apparently. My 1973 Terry TT had an aluminum roof. Worked very well, no problems ever.

Not your fault! Trees do jump out and attack your RV. Happens all the time.

I had an episode like that. Nasty long gouge along the edge of the roof for several feet. The problem was it was at the beginning of summer and the authorized complete repair was going to take months before anybody could get to it, so we would lose the use of the Rv for a long time. So I fixed it myself and kept on RVing.

I went from duct tape and Dicor to eventually Gorilla tape and Dicor, to finally, Eternabond. Repair looked awful, but it held together for 13 years, when trailer sold. New owner wasn't fussed--I told him it didn't leak, it just looked a bit ugly.

By the time that 13 years passed I had managed more arguments with trees and eavestroughs when backing down our driveway, so all the various patches sort of matched. 🙂 Eternabond is the best! Not to forget lots of Dicor!

Stew47, don’t beat yourself up too much. As I am approaching my mid seventies I am becoming very much aware that as hard as I try, I simply am not as good a driver as I once was. As for the roof, if it is insured I would let the insurance company replace it if they will. That way you can be more sure that the roof will not leak and if it does, there should be some warranty. If it is not insured, a patch should be just fine and likely as weather tight as the original roof. It would just be cosmetic and would make a good conversation starter. It would just be some character marks.

Here’s another question. My policy has a 25 percent betterment fee to depreciate an 8 year old roof. Other policies have that?

I have never had that come up in 38 years of dealing with RV roof replacement with insurance. It depends on YOUR carrier and your policy. A simple explanation is this on a betterment fee. I know my policies do NOT have a Betterment fee. Doug

You have a car that the tires are due for replacement and you have an accident that damages the tires. The Insurance company will require YOU to buy the new tires since they were due for replacement anyway.
