While pulling our 2017 TT down our alley the other day the fixed mount TV antenna encountered a low hanging telephone line caused by a neighbor's siding contractor detaching the line from the normal house attachment. I heard an unusual noise and stopped to investigate. The line pulled the antenna mount screws out of the roof decking and tore the rubber roof as the antenna was now mangled and laying on its side. I called our dealer's service department and the manager indicated that the whole rubber roof would require replacement. Is this standard practice and are insurance companies ok with this?

Rubber roofs are one piece, so yes, this would be the standard repair. However, and depending on how big the tear is, eternabond tape could make a suitable, permanent fix for less than 50 dollars.

Amazing when it's the customers wallet the whole thing needs repair but if it was a warranty item the easiest and cheapest way would be performed. Without seeing it we could only guess for a repair but the way you described it cleaning it up good, repair with eternabond tape and reattach the new antenna.

I would settle for nothing less than a total roof replacement. You know the saying, "You got a phone, you got a lawyer" They will replace it in full with no argument. Itinerant1, what would you settle for ?

There is also Dicor repair kits available.Dicor kitsContractor should be liable.

I'm guessing that it was his fault so no warranty will be in the future repair. But if it was a warranty covered item you better believe that it would be done in the correct manner.

I would be concerned about the condition of the plywood. It may be fractured and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the great feedback. I will be contacting the siding contractor after I find out our city's minimum height requirement for phone lines crossing the alley. I expect that the min height is higher than out TT TV antenna which should prove the contractor is at fault.

I'd say the siding contractor owes you a new roof. and when I got a roof tear from a branch my insurance company insisted that a new roof be installed, not a repair. Reason is that the repair must repair the trailer to "like new" condition. and the only way to do that is to replace the roof. They had no qualms about doing that. One reason I pay $88/year for insurance for my trailer. No if you have insurance, they should pay for replacement and likely go after the contractor for reimbursement.

Under warranty, if the rubber membrane is pulled loose(NOT TORN or Damaged), warranty will pay for a new deck and rubber membrane. Insurance will pay for new decking and new Rubber for the tiniest tear or damage on the roof. IF you own the RV and get a check for the full amount of a new roof(some of my customers), they cash the check and use Eternabond for small tears and holes. Don't own the RV the Insurance company will send the check in the Finance companies and customers name and they will NOT allow a Patch but full replacement. Doug

That wasn't my interpretation. Someone left a wire hanging lower than it should have been. I'd be seeking compensation....

clean it up
glue the rubber down
use eternabond to cover the tear
now remount the antenna rotating the base to put the screws in NEW places
seal the base and screws with Dicor
