Samlex remote switch cord to short

Picked up a longer wire with correct ends at computer store.

I didn't realize I was stepping on a pile commenting on this. With further looking I see that a "standard" RJ-12 cable has a 6-pin modular connector on each end (of either sex) and 6 wires connecting them. Looks like the wires can be scrambled any which way and still be under the umbrella of the standard. Having learned that, I still think it's dumb to not use pin 1 to pin 1, etc.

The reversed pinout is one of the standards for RJ-12.
You could purchase a couple of ends and the crimper and make any size cable you want. Cat 5 (4 pair) cable is easy to find. Just discard one pair. All is available from Harbor Freight.

I don't want to add to the terminology debate. After looking at the manual Fisherman linked to, I just wonder why Samlex decided to wire the connectors at one end in reverse order from the other end? Strikes me as a dumb decision to help confuse things. At least they documented it well.

NO, YOU CANNOT DO THIS. PHONE couplers keep the wire code correct when coupled. COMMUNICATION COUPLERS(THEY ARE DIFFERENT), keep the Com wire code correct when coupled. Doug

May as well throw us a bone and post the model number. All Samlex remotes are not the same.

If the plug is a common telephone plug with a 4-lead wire (very common for this type of thing) then you use standard Telephone extensions.. You do not need a "Special" cord. (well you do but that's the one that is too short)

Here is why
Phone cords are designed so that if you plug in direct pin 1 is.. Well pin 1, (likewise 2-3 and 4) and if you add an extension or two with a dual female adapter 1 is still 1 all the way to the phone,.

But the DATA cable for inverters may flip.. That is pin one on one end hooks to pin 4 on the other.. BUT you only need one such cable.. after that standard phone extensions work

So I'd get a standard phone cord and a double female (cable joiner) and extend it and see if it works. Should just fine.. NOTE there is a limit to how far you can extend but I strongly suspect you'd need to wrap around your RV a few times to get there.

NO, It is not like a Phone cord. Phone cords are NOT communication cords. What you have is a communication cord. The modular ends are wired in reverse of a PHONE Cord. IF it is a MORE than 4 wire(probably 8 wire RJ45 connector, then you can make an extension. Your remote cord may be a Network cord instead of a communication cord. You can cut the existing cable in the middle and get your own same type cable and colors extension and just splice each colored wired to is respective color. Or get a Network extension block and another extension cable wired the same. Doug
