Simple To Understand 7-Day Timer

Electrical kWh rates down here go stupid after the 1st 75 kWh per month. On DAC it goes to fifty US Cents per hour. The bills then gwt charged this rate every last kWh on the bill and stays that way for almost a year. Wanna pay seventy five dollars for a piddly 150 kWh?

SMkettners Intermatic pool timer, or what ever brand it is, would work just fine.

Why a timer at all? Are they on TOU pricing?

Otherwise an old style analog timer would be fine. 40 amp shown.

You don't need a 7-day timer. Only problem with the mechanical 24-hr timers is that their circuits may be too flimsy for your needs. Only an "outdoor" timer will have a 3-prong outlet.

I'm sorta worried about an 1875 watt tungsten load inrush. Theirs is on a 20-amp breaker. When the power blinks the thing loses clock time reference. Why they make AC timers without a battery clock backup is beyond me

I use a 12-volt timer for my own stuff. But that would entail using a battery. An a 30-amp rated SCR.

Mrs Reese wants hot water ready for 7-9 AM and again from 5-9 PM every day. I have a 20-amp motor-rated light swtch I'll put downstream from the timer. A motor driven irrigation timer sounds good-if re-setting the clock proves to be easy. Turn off power switch the spin the dial by hand to match dial hour of the day to a wristwatch.

Leaving the hot water on all the time adds over a hundred dollars for a 60-day billing cycle.

Timers down here are ridiculously hard to find and expensive. Like 200-dollars for a 30-amp device.

In Las Penas my gas heater is wrapped with 6" of fiberglass. Also not available here.

I have a Stanley 7 day digital timer that is very easy to program.

Walmart has the digital 7-day security timers by Brinks, which control a 15-amp 3-prong outlet. They are neither simple nor reliable. They are so complex and unreliable that I went back to the 24-hour dial-actuated $3.99 security timers (2-prong), and added more lights. These work perfectly and reliably, and with a bunch of lights and a little bit of manual adjustments you can't tell that it's the same thing every day.

An older irrigation timer would probably work well. The older ones had a 7 day dial for the timer, on and off were controlled by colored pegs pushed into the dial. If I still have one, it's yours.
