Looks like it is not an inverter generator so its 120v output might act more like modified sign wave? Those kind act different under load, so can't say what it can do.

Xantrex used to warn about trying to run their TrueCharge chargers on some generators (Onans ISTR) that were not inverter gens. However, my PowerMax converters do run ok on MSW, so who knows? Mr Wiz ran his WFCO converter on the Champ 1500-1200.

It says it has a 20a receptacle but in the photo in that link it shows that it is a 15/20, which is good. Be a PITA with a 20-only.

It will be VERY loud. 65db at 23 ft. :(

Another idea, but it isn't cheap, is to perhaps look at a second alternator with a voltage regulator? That will provide you with charging current for the house batteries, and when they are full, will automatically float them. The advantage of this setup is that you get 100+ amps fresh off the crankshaft.

The generator should work fine, I believe. If you have the charge wizard with a pendant, you can set it to a lower voltage manually for a bit if needed when the batteries are very much discharged...but I suspect that will not be needed at all.

Solar is very nice if it is workable for your situation. A class B may not have much open space on the roof for panels nor ready storage for portable ones. Solar is also much less effective if one camps in wooded areas or at northern latitudes during the winter.

I contacted Champion this morning and asked what the VA rating is on this generator but they did not know what I was talking about. All I want to know and do is charge my 2 12 volt deep cycle batteries while camping.

If all I needed to power was a 12v fridge and lights I would not require a Generator. 200 watts of solar is more than enough, at least in my location.

A generator might allow rapid battery charging to 80%, but 80% to 100% is going to take 3+ hours, and likely longer, and reaching 100% regularly is the secret to battery longevity.

The generator is the supplier of VA. The load has the PF.

BFL13, I am not so sure of that, power factor should effect generator winding temperatures in conventional generators, not engine power required for power generation. I am not sure if this would holds true for inverter generator loads or not, or if power factor change would directly effect output ability of an inverter, though Honda does publish their output rating at PF 1.0.

It should work, I have the next size up Progressive Dynamics converter, and my Honda EU-1000 is just a little too small to power it at max charge level.
