Trailer Wheels (rims)

My trailer came equipped with 15x6JJ Dexstar wheels part # 017-144. They are marked with a label stating a 2830 lbs rating and the Dexstar on-line product catalog confirms the weight rating, and further states 80PSI. I have load range E Maxxis trailer tires mounted to the wheels, and maintain a pressure of 80 PSI. I recently developed a crack in a rim, and an air leak. My local tire dealer could not find any trailer wheel in my size with a rating of 2830 lbs and 80 PSI. I ordered a Dexstar wheel from an on-line dealer and all will be good.

But is Dexstar the only manufacturer that makes such a wheel?
  • I recently had contact with the support people at Sendel Wheels which make the 6 bolt T03 wheels on my 5th wheel. She said the 6 bolt wheels have the same max PSI rating of 110 lbs as the 8 bolt as it is the same casting. Only difference is the 8 bolt has a higher weight rating.

Lie to me, lie to you.
  • etrailer has either an article or a FAQ stating that if the wheel is six lug, it is good for 80psi, regardless of what the weight rating of the wheel is.

  • no, the alloy rims on my Outback are 15" rated at 2830lbs in the 6 lug configuration. Don't recall the mfg, but I checked once and they showed about 6 different alloy wheel styles with the 2830lb rating.

However if yours are 5 lug, different story. I've only seen alloy wheels in 15" with 6lugs rated to 2830. the 5 lugs I saw were all rated for a LR D tire.
