Trojan HydroLink installation and winter

If you have 4 batteries 2 upper and 2 lower do you need two systems or just 1 ?

What do you do for winter ?

http://www.trojanbattery.com/pdf/TRJN0149_HLClpTubingMan.pdf

Says "Water supplies must be drained and stored in an empty state if they will be exposed to freezing
temperatures. Failure to do so can cause permanent damage to the watering supply."

also says "The HydroLink vent is not intended to be removed once installed."

I ASSume this means remove the snake tubing from the top and put the vent port plug that came in the vent manifold back in.

Thanks
  • Yes 4 6V T105s
I missed the line from the paragraph below that line
"No special steps need to be taken for winterization"
I think I will go with two clampless 12V systems just so it does not have as much water left between upper and lower.
Blow out procedures like yours as well.
Price seems to be close between 1 24v or 2 12v anyway

    Thanks for replying

I agree if those caps fill with water they may get damaged from water freezing.Or the water may drain sufficiently into the cells. So don't fill until you un-winterize.

I have not looked at mine for this issue as I do not winterize here. And though I think mine could be blown out if a tube was attached at the end to catch the water.

    I have this kit: http://www.powerstridebattery.com/battery-watering-kits/bwt-watering-kits/universal-24v-watering-kit-6v-batteries
  • I have four Trojan T-125 GC2 6V batteries. I bought one 24 volt kit and one hand pump.

The number of vent covers relates to the number of battery cells (2 volts per cell). Look on page 4 of the manual.

The are two type of kits. Clampless and snake. The "clampless" has rubber hoses that you cut to length and press onto the vent fittings. The "snake" has what appear to be plastic hoses with vent fittings pre-installed at fixed lengths.

I thought clampless (rubber hoses) would fit better because I decide the length.

Also I thought rubber hoses would be less likely to crack from water freezing in them.

Regarding freezing, read the next paragraph down from the one you quoted.

Before freezing temps arrived I hooked up the hand pump, with NO water, and squeezed several times to push air through the hoses to purge any water in them.

A local golf cart dealer ordered it for me.

On edit, if you have batteries at two different levels, ( 2 up and 2 down) the watering might work better with two separate 12 volt kits and one hand pump. That way the hand pump won't be trying to pump water up hill. The hand pump connects to one connector on each kit. With two kits and two connectors, you can water the upper batteries separately, then water the lower batteries. The hand pump is disconnected and stored separately until needed next time.

I am assuming you have 6 volt batteries. If 12 volt, then that changes the number of vents needed.
