Voltage divider SOLVED

Would this work? I have a 1 mil CP, 6 volt spotlight bulb. Will a simple voltage divider using a couple of 100 ohm resisters work from my 12 volt lighter recept. in the dash?
Here is a better diagram.

Keep in mind those VRB calcium/calcium batteries are designed for power failures and not regular cycling. C/C batteries are AWFUL for cycling purposes. Discharge them more than 20% (80% remaining) and they will suffer a short, unhappy life.

Here you go. Double check the specs. There are cheaper places on Ebay but with worse seller ratings.

That works too ๐Ÿ™‚ By the way, For all your battery needs there are two stores with a very wide ranging selection of batteries,, Radio Shack, however their prices tend to be on the high side, And Batteries Plus.. True (short) story)

Years ago I was looking for a new battery for a computer.. They had it, and so did a lot of other internet web sites.. Difference is B+ I was able to walk in, put money on counter and walk out with new battery (Ok so I had to pay sales tax, but I did not pay shipping).

All were about the same price.. So what other than the above made me go to B+.. Well everybody else sold the STANDARD battery,, Batteries Plus, the Extended run version, with 50% more capacity. All within a couple of dollars of each other (Or if you like a couple percent.. since its a 100 buck battery)

That is all the information in the book that is useful.
I think I may be better of buying one 12 volt to plug into a lighter.

Google: Batteries Plus

They have a replacement battery for it, in fact, they have options.

55 watts at six volts is 9.1 amps (rounded) so you would need about .769 ohms at 60 watts and you might well burn your hand on that resistor. I would go to Batteries Plus for a new battery.

Also, six volt AGM batteries are used in kiddie cars (Like the barbie Jeep) and so on.. You may find a suitable battery at Wal*mart et-al either in the toys isle or in the automotive battery section Sometimes they even have decent (NON-AGM) prices.

The problem is that incandescent bulb filaments change resistance as they heat up. Higher when cold, much lower when hot. Messes up the voltage divider math.

You could replace the bulb with a 12v H3 bulb. I don't know how difficult replacing the bulb is. Here is a link to what I believe is the bulb you would need. There is no guarantee that I am right.

You need a 6v 10 Ampere or more power supply. Here is a converter that would work for you. Probably more than you want to spend???

It might, if you are lucky, last 5 minutes with a light bulb of any decent size, Most of those are good for 500mA at the most, some may go an amp, but not many.

OP says it is a 1 mil CP bulb. One million candlepower? Could draw quite a bit of current.

Change the bulb to 12 volts if possible. Cheaper most likely.

Radio Shack/AMAZON sells a 12VDC plug with a multi-voltage output slider switch built into it... I use one all the time to power up a 9VOLT WX RADIO in my OFF-ROAD POPUP. Be sure to check your required current draw for your light.
