Water pump recommendations..

Electric steps will act the same way when the brushes are worn. Tapping on the motor forces them to make contact again - for a little while. You need a new pump.

I bought a variable speed Jabsco (FlowJet) water pump and then installed an expansion tank with it. I can't hear it start or stop unless it's very quite in the motorhome (TV muted). I love not hearing "burt-burt-burt" all the time as I'm drawing water with the pump kicking on and off.

Maybe pressure sensor sticking?

Im taping at the pump end.
I might be able to tap it towards the back too.
It doesnt take much of a smack to get it started.

I too don't understand what it is you need to "tap" to get the pump running. My pump is in a "wet compartment" where I'd have to go outside and open the door to get at my pump.

I can turn my pump on or off at 3 different locations (the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink or inside the wet compartment). All three switches go through a multi-switch box that permits this to work.

Are you tapping on a relay or on the pump itself?

OK. So you turn on a faucet, and nothing happens? Then you smack/tap the water pump and it starts pumping?
Never heard that one before. Weird.
Usually, it's the other way around. No taps/faucets open, and pump won't stop running.
At least you know your plumbing is tight.:B

Thinking about this comment, what do you mean once an hour?
They aren't supposed to run continuously, unless you're leaking air/water. They only run when there's a demand for pressure.
What are you doing that requires it to run once an hour?

In our last 2 mh's I've added a 1 or 2 gal bladder pressure tank. It eliminates short cycles, and you can flush the toilet a few times at night without the pump coming on. I know you young campers don't need to get up at night.
With the bladder it does not matter what position the tank is mounted in.

ShurFlo anything. They're bullet proof.
Why not replace it with the same pump?

Ever clean the screen/trap or determine why the pump needs help?
Might be something simple like wiring.
