Hi All, getting ready to replace the check valve in my water pump. I have never removed a water pump before. I need some advice so as to not dump water/flood the compartment. Can anybody shed some light on the proper steps for removal? Thank you!!!

Update.....was able to just remove the front piece of the pump without removing the pump. Just had a little bit of water come out. Was actually a very easy job, about 15 mins total. It appears to have fixed the problem of city water filling my fresh water tank! $10 fix!

Thank you guys for help/advice!

Be prepared for the "fix" to fail again. It is a good pump with a weak check valve system.

A stand-alone check valve will be a more semi-permanent repair.

This is the check valve that I used, and you can see it plumbed in the following photos.

It is a Camco 23303 1/2" Back-Flow Preventer check valve connected to the output side of the water pump.

Well, it is not going to defy gravity & come up out of the tank. Some might drain out of 'the house' so be prepared.

When you loosen the intake line to the pump I don't know what would stop a full flow of water siphoning out of the tank ! Drain the tank !!

Might be a good idea to open your low point drains and all the faucets first. That way any water left in your lines will drain outside the rig.

I may actually be able to do this without removing (fingers/toes crossed) the pump itself. So just residual water? Nothing pouring out in torrents?

Should be no torrents if youโ€™re level (fresh tank not uphill) and open a couple faucets to relieve any pressure in the lines. If youโ€™re hooked up to water Iโ€™d also turn it off and release the pressure just in case...depends on how things are plumbed, but better to release all pressure. Agree with comment above to have a couple towels ready. Replaced our pump a while back and just a little residual spill.

If the RV is sitting in the driveway at home, why not drain the fresh water system first? To be on the safe side. Better water on the driveway, than inside the RV on the woodwork, flooring, or other structure. After you open all the drains, and the water flow stops, run the pump for a few minutes to dry it out.
Mike. Comments are anecdotal or personal opinions, and worth what you paid for them.
