1. If it's like the one with "Cart/2" in that search above, I'd say replace it. It's remote, at the end of a tube leading from the tank. Just be sure to get the correct hose diameter or it'll leak.
2. BUT, if it's integral with the Tank Itself, I believe I'd leave it alone and continue to use a tool very carefully like you are now.
I believe most RV's are set up like 1. above with remote drain. Bur as I recall, our first RV, a Class C, was like 2. It had the tank under the bathroom vanity and the drain "spout" was part of the tank. So in addition to fitting the tank, that "spout" would also have to line up with a hole in the coach floor. Another reason to leave that kind alone.
